Things to do before breast surgery

If you are planning to go for plastic surgery, there are a few things you need to do beforehand to speed up your recovery. Careful preparation and planning will not only give you a peace of mind, but will also prevent unnecessary physical strain which can delay your healing or cause other complications. Here are things you need to do before plastic surgery.

Laundry

Pick all your dirty clothes, wash them, dry them, fold them, and then put them away. You don’t want to be collecting laundry, sorting clothes, and carrying a laundry basket after surgery. This is particularly true if you have been restricted from lifting objects to avoid any strain on your incisions.

Meal Preparation

On the eve of your surgery, you may consider preparing meals for the next day. The medications you take during surgery may make you too tired and drowsy to cook. For a more extensive plastic surgery, such as a tummy tuck, you need to have at least a week of meals already cooked so that you can have easier time.

Entertainment

Your recovery may speed up if you have some distractions. Whether it is TV, real puzzles, board games, Sudoku, crossword puzzles, knitting, playing cards or sketch book, keeping yourself busy will distract you from postsurgical discomfort and pain.

Delegate Childcare and Petcare:

Get someone to take care of your children and pet. Lifting children or pets may be restricted during the recovery period depending on the procedure you have had. While you may be able to walk after the surgical procedure, walking bigger dogs might strain your incisions during the early stages of recovery.

Purchase “Easy-off” Clothes

Button-up shirts would be easier to put on than over-the-head shirts after arm surgery or breast surgery. Also, loose-fitting pants would feel better when compared to tight pants. Go for pants with elastic bands and slip on shoes so that you don’t have to bend over to tie them.

Housekeeping

Doing dishes, making beds, sweeping, dusting, mopping, wiping mirrors, cleaning the toilet and bathtub and performing other household tasks may prove difficult after having this surgery. Completing housework before the surgery or getting help may contribute to your smooth recovery.
Apart from handling these physical activities, a good attitude will go a long way in enhancing your recovery. Negative attitude can prolong your recovery and make it more painful. So try to be more upbeat and you will not even notice the pain and discomfort.
